Last week’s PCB West show attendance rose 10.4% year-over-year, to more than 1,900 attendees, UP Media Group has announced. It was the annual PCB industry trade show’s highest turnout in over a decade.

Show registration was up 9.2% from 2014, as PCB designers, fabricators and assemblers turned out for the largest Silicon Valley-based trade show for the PCB industry.

The most popular sessions included common PCB design errors and signal integrity, with more than 100 attendees packing each of those presentations. More than 30 designers underwent IPC certification during the conference as well.

The sold-out show floor featured more than 100 companies occupying nearly 95 booths, and exhibitors were uniformly enthusiastic about their leads from the consistently busy show.

PCB West was held September 15–17 at the Santa Clara (CA) Convention Center. It included a three-day technical conference consisting of nearly 70 presentations, a one-day exhibition, featuring the PCB industry's leading vendors, and an array of free technical sessions.

Overall, more than 1,900 printed circuit board designers, fabricators and electronics assemblers, managers and suppliers attended the trade show, UP Media Group said.

"This year’s show was characterized by steady, often heavy traffic from start to finish,” said Mike Buetow, editorial director of UPMG. "There was a lot of interest from the design side in signal integrity presentations, and the free assembly sessions were a positive and well-received addition to the technical conference."

PCB West 2016 will take place in September 2016 at the Santa Clara (CA) Convention Center.

The Fabric of Our Lives: A Closer Look at Standards for E-Textiles

08/17/2023 | Chris Jorgensen, IPC
The e-textiles industry recognizes IPC as a leader in standards development for the greater electronics industry, and in 2017 asked IPC for assistance to develop global standards for materials, design, and manufacture of e-textiles. Volunteers quickly adapted to IPC’s processes by integrating themselves into the fabric (pun intended) of IPC’s global standardization efforts.

Book Excerpt: 'The Printed Circuit Designer's Guide to... Manufacturing Driven Design'

Chapter 1 of 'The Printed Circuit Designer's Guide to... Manufacturing Driven Design' revolves around understanding and acknowledging the progression of DFM which will help us discern between those tenets which are core to successful practices, and those which are holding us back. In MDD, manufacturing process requirements drive design decisions prior to and throughout the design layout process.

Design Challenges: From The Assembler’s Viewpoint

06/29/2023 | Andy Shaughnessy, I-Connect007
Fabricators are fairly vocal about the design issues that they encounter, especially with brand-new customers. They are, after all, the next step in the process. But we don’t hear as much about design issues from EMS providers. This month, we asked experts from the PCB assembly segment to share their thoughts about design challenges that affect technologists on the EMS side.
